Interim Executive Dean
Robert Hinde was named Interim Executive Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences in October 2022. His appointment began Nov. 1, 2022. As interim dean, he will focus on implementation of the new divisional structure to be launched in July 2023.
Before joining the Provost’s Office in 2015, Hinde served as the college’s associate dean for academic programs. He worked closely with faculty across campus to create new academic programs, and has extensive experience as a college and campus leader in all matters related to instruction.
Robert Hinde received his BS degrees in chemistry and computer science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1987. He earned a PhD degree in physical chemistry from the University of Chicago in 1992. He then undertook postdoctoral work in chemistry at Cornell University as a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow. In 1994, Hinde joined the chemistry faculty at the University of Tennessee.
