Teacher Education Program
Teacher Education programs at the university vary greatly dependent upon the area of the licensure that a student is seeking. Some programs have undergraduate and graduate tracks while others only offer licensure at the graduate level.
Programs offered by a student majoring in the College of Arts and Sciences
- English Education, grades 6-12 (requires a major in English) with a minor in Secondary Education and licensure occurs at the graduate level
- Art Education, grades K-12 (requires a BA in Studio Art or a BFA in Studio Art) with a minor in Art Education and licensure occurs at the graduate level
- Social Sciences (grades 6-12) – Social Science Education is broken up by subject area in the state of TN. Students can major in one of the following with a minor in Secondary Education:
- History
- Political Science
- Economics
- Geography
- Mathematics Education (grades 6-12) – option to major in Mathematics ideally with the concentration in Mathematics Education and a minor in VolsTeach Mathematics; any Mathematics concentration will work
- Science Education (grades 6-12) – Science Education is broken up by subject area in the state of TN. Students can major in one of the following with a minor in VolsTeach Science:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Geology
- Physics
- World Language Education (grades PreK-12) – World Language Education is broken up by language so students choose one of the following languages to major in and then minor in World Language Education:
- Hispanic Studies
- French and Francophone Studies
- German
- Classics (Latin Concentration)
